There are plenty of things to do in Crete in August<\/strong>, full of blue skies, sea temperatures at their warmest of the year, and a packed calendar of village festivals you won’t catch in any other month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and the southernmost, sitting between mainland Greece and North Africa. That geography matters in summer, as the island is usually the warmest part of Greece. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So how hot is Crete in August<\/strong>, really? The honest answer is that hot! The north coast, where Chania<\/a>, Rethymno<\/a>, and Heraklion<\/strong> sit, is typically a few degrees cooler than the south, partly because the central mountains block the hot southerly winds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
